KCOBA Defends King’s College Concession, Condemns Students’ Role in Protest
The King’s College Old Boys’ Association has defended the concession of King’s College, Lagos, insisting that the arrangement is not a sale or transfer of ownership. It said the Federal Government will retain legal title, regulatory oversight, inspection rights and the power to intervene if the concessionaire defaults. KCOBA said its special-purpose vehicle will finance and manage the rehabilitation, development and operation of the school under a public-private partnership approved through the relevant government review process. The association said the deal covers facilities such as classrooms, hostels, laboratories, staff quarters, health facilities, utilities and sports infrastructure. The association also condemned the reported use of students in uniform during protests against the Minister of Education, especially chants accusing the minister of theft. It urged parents and other stakeholders to protect children from adult disputes and raise concerns about the concession through responsible channels.
