Lagos Court Halts Olu of Oko Baba Agba Coronation Pending Suit
A Lagos State High Court in Ikeja has stopped the proposed November 16 coronation of Chief Kabiru Adesegun Bashiru as the Olu of Oko Baba Agba in Oworonshoki. The order will remain in place pending the hearing and final determination of a suit challenging his installation; it does not decide the case itself. Justice D.T. Olatokun ordered the parties to preserve the status quo before Bashiru’s purported installation. The court also restrained the Lagos State Government and relevant agencies from officially recognising him as the traditional ruler, and barred Bashiru and those acting on his behalf from presenting him as such or organising the coronation. The suit was brought by seven claimants, led by Prince Adeniyi Saliu, against Bashiru and other parties, including the Lagos State Government and the Oloworo of Oworo Kingdom. The matter is scheduled for a Case Management Conference on January 26, 2027.
