Emerse Faé to Leave Côte d’Ivoire Coaching Role After Contract Expiry

Emerse Faé to Leave Côte d’Ivoire Coaching Role After Contract Expiry

Emerse Faé will leave his role as Côte d’Ivoire head coach when his contract expires on July 31, the Ivorian Football Federation has confirmed. Faé was appointed on an interim basis during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations after Jean-Louis Gasset was sacked. Côte d’Ivoire had suffered a 4-0 defeat to Equatorial Guinea but progressed from the group stage as one of the best third-placed teams. Under Faé, the Elephants completed a remarkable turnaround and won the AFCON title on home soil, beating Nigeria in the final. He also guided the team to qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and their first-ever knockout-stage appearance at the tournament. The federation praised Faé’s professionalism, commitment and contribution to recent successes of the national team.

What do you think Côte d'Ivoire should prioritise when choosing Faé's replacement?

I agree; they should resist chasing hype and focus on a coach with a clear long-term plan.

It is notable that Faé's journey began as an interim appointment during a difficult AFCON period.

A contract expiry does not automatically mean the coaching setup failed; the federation may simply want a new direction.

The federation should communicate its next coaching plan early, so players and supporters know what to expect.
