Healthy Marriage Starts When Both Partners Take Responsibility
Matthew 7:3–5 reminds us to examine ourselves before focusing on another person’s faults. In marriage, constant blame can prevent growth and turn every disagreement into a battle over who is wrong. Your spouse may upset or disappoint you, but you remain responsible for your response. Anger does not justify insults, revenge or deliberate hurt. Admit your mistakes, manage your emotions and avoid demanding changes you are unwilling to make yourself. Correction should be given and received with respect. Listen without becoming defensive, acknowledge what is true and make needed adjustments. Humiliation, threats and abuse are not healthy ways to handle conflict. Taking responsibility does not mean accepting blame for everything. Each partner is accountable for their actions. A stronger marriage begins when both people ask, “What can I change to help us grow?”
