Dangote Exports N757bn Jet Fuel to Europe, Surpasses US Shipments

In June, Dangote Petroleum Refinery shipped 466,000 metric tonnes of jet fuel to Europe. The cargo, valued at an estimated N757bn, outpaced exports from the United States and other major producers. This surge marked the highest monthly volume Nigeria has ever sent to Europe since becoming a net exporter of aviation fuel in 2024. Shipments nearly doubled from 232,000 tonnes in May. A market report by S&P Global Commodity Insights noted that this rise coincided with falling European jet fuel prices after earlier spikes linked to the Middle East conflict.

Did anyone else find it surprising that Dangote's jet fuel exports to Europe topped those from the US in a single month?

True talk! Who would've thought Dangote would outsell US jet fuel to Europe just like that?

A spike to 466,000 metric tonnes is impressive, but I wonder if this level is sustainable beyond a one-off surge.

Exporting large volumes is fine, yet focusing solely on jet fuel neglects our gasoline needs and domestic price stability.

To balance export growth and local demand, regulators should monitor refinery output allocation while encouraging investments in downstream distribution.
