My Practical Tips for Relocating Back to Nigeria
I relocated to Nigeria in 2019 and returned to England temporarily in 2026. From my experience, Nigeria can be comfortable and enjoyable for returnees who plan carefully and have a stable income. I recommend keeping a foreign-currency income stream or savings before moving. Choose a secure gated estate, use health insurance or budget for private care, and live in an upper-middle-class area where possible. Avoid displaying wealth through flashy cars, jewellery or expensive dressing. Be cautious about hiring domestic staff unless you can pay fair wages and properly vet them. Use reputable corporate mechanics, plan for car repairs and other unexpected costs, and build friendships gradually through trusted communities. Nigeria is not as frightening as it is often portrayed. With financial preparation, modest living and sensible security choices, I believe a return can offer peace, comfort and a good quality of life.
