Abuja Court Hangs Three Men for Terrorism Offences
The Federal High Court in Abuja has convicted three men for terrorism offences and sentenced them to death by hanging. Danladi Lawal pleaded guilty to five counts, receiving one death sentence, two life terms, and additional jail terms totalling over 45 years. In separate rulings, Justice Salim Ibrahim handed death sentences to Abdullahi Mohammed and Mohammed Gulama Shaibu after their guilty pleas in related terror cases. Both were charged under different case numbers at the Abuja court. Other defendants also received heavy sentences. Mohammed Dezami Sherife got life terms on multiple counts, while Shamsudeen Muhammad Ibrahim was sentenced to life and a 35-year term for supporting ISWAP activities. Another convict, Lawi Abubakar Mohammed, pleaded guilty to two counts and was ordered to serve 40 years in prison backdated to his arrest. The judge directed that he undergo rehabilitation and deradicalisation before release.
