Edo Commissioner Alleges Residents Bring in Herders, Criminals for Kidnapping
The Edo State Commissioner for Public Safety and Security says some residents are importing herders and criminals from other states to carry out kidnappings. In a June 10 briefing in Benin, he explained that youths have been hiding herdsmen and terrorists in their homes and directing them to targets. Arrested suspects confessed they were recruited and sheltered by locals. To curb the threat, the state has engaged 500 forest guards who are now in training to secure wooded areas. The Federal Government has also approved an additional 500 personnel to bolster the effort.
