FG Targets 24-Hour Power for 30% of Nigerian Health Facilities by 2027

The Federal Government has approved a financing and implementation framework to provide reliable 24-hour electricity to at least 30% of Nigeria’s health facilities by the end of 2027. The Nigeria Power for Health Initiative will use public-private partnerships to deploy solutions suited to each facility, including solar mini-grids, gas-powered systems and other renewable options. The plan also includes dedicated budget provisions, a full-time project coordination unit and energy-management teams in participating hospitals. Officials said the Rural Electrification Agency has already installed containerised solar systems in about 100 hospitals nationwide. The programme is expected to reduce hospitals’ dependence on diesel generators and support critical services such as operating theatres, laboratories, oxygen plants, vaccine storage and emergency care. The government says it now wants to move from announcements to commissioning fully energised primary, state and teaching hospitals across the country.
