Military Pledges Neutrality and Human Rights Compliance for 2027 Elections
The Armed Forces of Nigeria has restated its commitment to neutrality, professionalism and respect for human rights during the 2027 general elections. At a Defence Headquarters seminar on the military’s role in supporting credible elections, the Chief of Defence Staff said personnel must remain apolitical while providing security support to civil authorities. He stressed the need to follow the Code of Conduct and Rules of Engagement for Operation Safe Conduct 2027. The military cited its role in recent off-cycle and by-elections in several states, saying the conduct of troops helped to ensure peaceful polls. Commanders and staff officers were urged to improve inter-agency cooperation, respond quickly to threats and protect law-abiding citizens.
