Kaduna Gives Amokachi, Lawal and Babayaro Land 30 Years After Olympic Gold
Daniel Amokachi, Garba Lawal and Emmanuel Babayaro have received plots of land from Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, three decades after Nigeria’s Dream Team won Olympic football gold in Atlanta. Amokachi said federal and state governments made several promises to the 1996 squad, but many were left unfulfilled for years. He thanked the Kaduna governor for honouring the commitment. The governor also directed that streets be named after members of the gold-winning team who have not yet been recognised. The reconstructed Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna is expected to be unveiled in November, according to the report. Nigeria defeated Argentina 3–2 in the 1996 Olympic final to win the country’s first and only Olympic football gold medal.
