Mass Defection: Key Makinde Allies Quit PDP for APM in Oyo State
A wave of defections has hit Oyo State’s PDP. Many elected officeholders, appointees and political associates of Governor Seyi Makinde have left the party to join the Allied Peoples Movement. Among those who resigned were Shina Peller, the consensus PDP candidate for Oyo North Senatorial District in 2027. He cited a leadership vacuum and legal uncertainties within the party. House of Representatives member Adedeji Olajide and Oyo Central senatorial aspirant Olufemi Ajadi also announced their move. Several state assembly members, including Majority Leader Onaolapo Adedoyin, have followed suit. Observers link the coordinated shift to a May 9 deadline for naming preferred successors under new electoral guidelines. Speculation around Bimbo Adekanmbi continues, but the governor’s office says consultations are ongoing.
