Kwara State Doctors Begin Seven-Day Warning Strike Over Pay Deductions and Welfare
Doctors in Kwara State government health facilities have begun a seven-day warning strike over welfare concerns, including a two per cent salary deduction for the state health insurance scheme. The Kwara Doctors Forum said the action followed the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum to the state government. The group is also demanding implementation of the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure, payment of accoutrement allowance arrears, recruitment of more doctors and renovation of house officers’ quarters. The doctors said they support affordable health insurance but want transparent management, proper consultation and oversight of workers’ contributions. The management of Kwara State University Teaching Hospital has appealed to them to resume work, warning that critically ill patients could be affected.
