Underreported Mass Killings Expose Nigeria’s Deepening Security Crisis, Warns Olawepo-Hashim
Former PDP chieftain Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim has raised alarm over a fresh wave of mass killings across Nigeria, warning that many attacks go underreported and are becoming normalized. He cited recent assaults that left over 40 dead in Shanga LGA of Kebbi State and dozens more in coordinated attacks across Kaiama, Edu and Ifelodun in Kwara. Similar violence has rocked Benue, Plateau, Niger and Nasarawa states. Olawepo-Hashim blamed the surge on armed groups like Boko Haram, ISWAP and expanding bandit networks. He criticised the weak security response and the muted reaction from global bodies, saying this silence risks turning human tragedies into routine statistics.
