Osimhen and Lookman Rested as Chelle Names Experimental Super Eagles Squad for Russia Friendly
Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle has named a 24-man squad for Nigeria’s friendly against Russia in Nizhny Novgorod on 6 October 2026. Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman have been rested, while Wilfred Ndidi, Moses Simon and Stanley Nwabali lead the team. The squad includes several first-time invitees, including goalkeeper Samuel James, defender Victory Akpe and full-back Abdullahi Bewene. Chelle has also retained players such as Bright Osayi-Samuel, Raphael Onyedika, Akor Adams and Kelechi Iheanacho. Ikorodu City players Michael Atata and Aderemi Adeoye, alongside Enugu Rangers defender Kenneth Igboke, earn call-ups from the NPFL. The friendly gives the coaching crew an opportunity to assess emerging players and build depth ahead of future competitive fixtures.
