Falana Says Edo’s Freedom Fighters Helped Shape Nigeria’s Independence Struggle
Human rights lawyer Femi Falana says Edo State played a major role in Nigeria’s anti-colonial struggle, citing figures such as Anthony Enahoro and labour leader Michael Imoudu. Speaking at a pre-Independence lecture in Benin City, Falana said Nigeria’s freedom was hard-won and urged citizens to reflect on whether the Nigerian dream is still achievable. He described that dream as a country where citizens can access education, jobs, security and opportunities without corruption, insecurity or political connections determining their future. He also urged Nigerians to demand information and hold those in government accountable. The lecture focused on what the 2027 elections should deliver for Nigerians, including dignity, justice and improved living standards.
