Singer Adekunle Gold says genotype compatibility was an important factor in his decision to marry Simi. Speaking on the One54 Podcast, he said he lives with sickle cell disorder and would not have continued the relationship if Simi had genotype AS or SS. According to him, he wanted to avoid the risk of having children affected by sickle cell disease. He said he confirmed that Simi is AA before proceeding with the relationship. The couple married in 2019.
