Why I Believe Muslims Should Avoid Big Brother Naija

Big Brother Naija attracts huge attention whenever it airs, with many viewers following housemates and online trends closely. However, I believe the programme often normalises obscenity, vulgar language and behaviour that can weaken personal values. As Muslims, we should be mindful of the entertainment we consume and avoid content that encourages immorality or wastes our time. The Qur'an warns against the spread of indecency among believers, while the Prophet taught Muslims to oppose wrongdoing according to their ability. Parents should also guide and monitor the media their children consume. Rather than supporting content that may corrupt our values, we should choose entertainment that protects our faith, dignity and character.

How do Muslims who still follow the show balance entertainment with the concern that its language and behaviour may affect personal values?

I agree. Setting clear limits and avoiding content that weakens one's convictions seems like the sensible approach.

Avoiding it may be a personal choice, but viewers can also recognise problematic content without assuming every follower shares those behaviours.

Families and individuals can set clear viewing boundaries, choose alternatives, and discuss why certain content conflicts with their values.
