Ijebu Community Raises Alarm Over Recurring Toxic Gas Leaks at Ogun Schools

Ijebu Community Raises Alarm Over Recurring Toxic Gas Leaks at Ogun Schools

The Association of Ijebu Sons & Daughters has warned of repeated toxic gas emissions at schools in Ijebu land, Ogun State. New outbreaks at Anglican Girls Grammar School, Hope Immaculate High School and St. Anthony’s Grammar School have caused panic among students and residents. Witnesses report several people were affected and rushed to hospital. One parent at Hope Immaculate High School said his daughter remained unconscious for over four hours, and medical treatment cost nearly ₦170,000. The group is demanding clarity on earlier investigations at Our Lady of Apostles Girls High School. They want to know if methane gas has been confirmed and why preventive measures were not put in place. They have called on the Ogun State Government, Ijebu-Ode Local Government and other relevant authorities to urgently identify the source of the emissions and take steps to safeguard students and community members.

I've noticed these incidents span three different schools, which could point to a larger industrial or infrastructure issue in that area.

Parent-teacher associations should demand independent air quality tests and work directly with state agencies to address safety concerns quickly.
