Israel Says It Captured Hamas Internal Security Chief in Gaza Operation
The Israeli military and Shin Bet said they captured a senior Hamas internal-security official during operations in Gaza. Israeli sources identified him as Mu’in al-Arabid, though a Palestinian source described the detainee as the official in charge of internal security in Gaza City. Israel said the operation involved strikes on targets it described as threats to its forces. A Gaza source also claimed that an anti-Hamas group assisted the operation, while Hamas was seeking to minimise the incident. Israeli leaders said the arrest was part of their wider campaign to dismantle Hamas’s military and governing capacity in Gaza. Hamas had not publicly confirmed the reported capture at the time of the statements.
