Winterburn: Calafiori’s Biggest Strength Is His Attacking Freedom

Arsenal legend Nigel Winterburn says Riccardo Calafiori offers more going forward than in defence, although he remains a dependable defender. The Italian left-back has impressed with his adventurous movement, often drifting into central and attacking areas when Arsenal have possession. He scored in Arsenal’s recent win over Leeds United and also found the net in the Community Shield victory against Manchester City. Winterburn said Calafiori’s ability on the ball and his habit of arriving in goalscoring positions make him a valuable and unusual option in Mikel Arteta’s side. Arsenal are expected to feature him again when they face Lille in the Champions League.
