Why We Should Respect Sunday Igboho’s Decisions
I believe we should stop criticizing Sunday Igboho for choosing to step back. If I were in his shoes, would I fight for a cause supported by only 15% of my people? I’d weigh the risks and put my life first. Nnamdi Kanu maintains strong backing—over 90% of his ethnic group—and many are ready to die for him. That support makes the government wary. When security forces moved against Igboho, they were ordered to shoot on sight. If he hadn’t escaped, he might be dead today. Most Yorubas prefer a united Nigeria. The idea of an Oduduwa Republic makes many uneasy. I see more passion defending President Tinubu than supporting someone risking ambush in the forest. I’m disappointed Igboho waited this long. If I were him, I would have stepped down earlier.
