Traders Arrested as Kano Council Cracks Down on Allegedly Altered Milk Expiry Dates
The Kano State Consumer Protection Council has arrested traders at Singer Market over allegations that expiry dates on milk products were altered. Shops linked to the products were also sealed during the operation. The council said it acted after receiving an alert from the market’s traders’ association. Officials were deployed to investigate the allegation, leading to the arrests and closure of the affected shops. The council said anyone found guilty would be prosecuted. It urged market leaders and traders to work with authorities to stop expired, adulterated and substandard products from reaching consumers.
