In 1987, William Bellingham appeared on the BBC quiz show Mastermind. His specialist subject was Nigerian history from the early 1900s to the 1960s. A former army officer and schoolmaster, he also spent several years in senior management at Guinness Nigeria. He drew on his first-hand experience working and living in the country. He passed away in November 2020, just before his grandson, footballer Jude Bellingham, made his senior debut for England’s national team.
