Tinubu Secures Fresh French Military Aid to Tackle Terrorism
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced that Nigeria will receive new military support from France after a strategic call with President Emmanuel Macron. The discussions focused on defence equipment and broader security cooperation. This announcement follows coordinated bomb attacks in Maiduguri on March 16, which killed at least 23 people near the Post Office, Monday Market and the University Teaching Hospital entrance. Tinubu called the incident a stark reminder of the threat posed by terrorism. Describing insecurity as his administration’s biggest challenge, Tinubu said Nigeria is also engaging the United Kingdom and other partners for military assistance. He urged state governors to support federal efforts and to protect vulnerable communities from economic fallout driven by global tensions. He praised Vice President Kashim Shettima’s visit to Borno State and the deployment of advanced security technologies. Governors’ Forum chairman AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq reaffirmed support for the president and noted that proposals on establishing state police will soon reach the National Assembly.
