Edo Police Arrest Islamic Teacher, Four Suspected Kidnappers Over Auchi Operations
The Edo State Police Command has arrested a 52-year-old Islamic teacher and four suspected kidnappers over alleged kidnapping activities in Edo North, including Auchi, Jattu and Okpella. Police said the teacher allegedly prepared charms for kidnapping gangs. He denied the allegation, saying he only prayed for one suspect at the request of the suspect’s mother. He admitted knowing the suspect had an AK-47 rifle but said he did not know of any criminal activity. One suspect, Ahmadu Suleiman, allegedly confessed to taking part in a kidnapping in Auchi. He said the gang selected homes that appeared wealthy, fired shots to cause panic, abducted victims and demanded ransom. He claimed he received ₦1 million from the operation. Police said the arrests followed intelligence gathering in Niger State. A separate suspect accused of stealing a baby in Benin City was also paraded, while officers recovered a stolen vehicle.
