Walking in the Spirit: Overcoming the Pull of the Flesh
One of the key battles of Christian life is choosing the leading of the Holy Spirit over anger, pride, fear, selfishness and other fleshly desires. Walking in the Spirit means allowing God’s Word to shape our thoughts, decisions, relationships and conduct. The conflict between the flesh and the Spirit is real, but believers are encouraged to choose obedience, forgiveness, humility, self-control and love. Spiritual maturity is shown not only by knowledge of Scripture, but by visible character and the fruit of the Spirit. To grow in a Spirit-led life, feed on God’s Word, maintain prayer, obey promptly, guard what you consume and remain connected to Christ. Strong emotions should be tested against Scripture, godly wisdom, Christ’s character and the fruit they produce. Today, I choose to surrender my thoughts, desires and decisions to God. May the Holy Spirit help me reject sinful impulses and reflect the love, peace, patience, faithfulness and self-control of Christ.
