Kachia Abductees Deny ₦1bn Ransom Payment, Say They’re Still in Captivity
Thirty-seven residents kidnapped from Ariko community in Kachia LGA, Kaduna State, say they remain in captivity 74 days after their abduction. They have denied reports that a ₦1 billion ransom and 30 motorcycles secured their release. In a video seen by several outlets, both abductors and victims spoke in Hausa amid bush surroundings. A visibly distressed male victim confirmed that they were still held by bandits and that the rescue reports were false. He urged the government to stop misleading the public and described the suffering, hunger and deaths among captives. He warned that exposure to rain, heat and starvation is worsening conditions in the terrorists’ camp.
