Onicha-Ugbo Celebrates Iné New Yam Festival With Masquerades and Traditional Rites
Onicha-Ugbo in Delta State’s Aniocha North LGA celebrated its Iné New Yam Festival on Saturday, September 19, 2026. The traditional ruler and elders performed the ceremonial cutting and tasting of the first yam of the season. The celebration featured masquerade displays, cultural dances, drumming, processions and other performances. Indigenes from within Nigeria and the diaspora joined residents to celebrate the harvest and reconnect with their heritage. Community leaders used the occasion to promote peace, unity, respect for tradition and collective development in Onicha-Ugbo.
