Lagos Communities Grapple with Flood Chaos After Torrential Rains
Persistent rainfall on Tuesday submerged homes and roads in several Lagos communities. Areas including Ago Palace Way, Okota Road, Amuwo Odofin and Ilaje in Ajah were badly hit, leaving many residents stranded and businesses and schools disrupted. Residents described the flooding as a recurring nightmare and urged lasting flood-control measures. Mrs Stella said Greenfield Estate, despite its status, always gets severely flooded. She added that Community Road, Supersaver, Kilimanjaro and the Ago Bridge–Apple Junction corridor are often impassable during heavy rain. In Amuwo Odofin, Miss Sarah Onyeachonam said she has been unable to go to work since Monday. Another resident almost fell from a commercial motorcycle when hidden potholes lurked beneath the floodwaters. A private school in Ajah suspended classes over safety concerns. Residents are now calling on authorities to clear blocked drains, repair roads and implement sustainable flood-control solutions.
