Rivers Seals Illegal Clinic as Suspects Are Arrested During Alleged Thyroid Surgery

The Rivers State Ministry of Health says it has sealed eight health facilities and arrested four people over alleged quackery, impersonation and the operation of unregistered facilities during an enforcement exercise. Officials said two suspects were apprehended at a facility inside a residential compound on Victoria Street while allegedly preparing to carry out a thyroidectomy on a patient. The facility was sealed. The ministry also shut five other hospitals and two laboratory centres for allegedly operating without registration or below required standards. It warned that licensed practitioners found working in unregistered or substandard facilities could face sanctions.
