FG Calls for Arrest of Suspect in FMC Abeokuta Health Worker Stabbing
The Federal Government has called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of the suspect accused of stabbing a medical laboratory scientist at the Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta. The Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare condemned the attack, saying disagreements over treatment or hospital services must be addressed through formal complaint channels, not violence against health workers. The ministry said it will monitor the case and urged hospital managers to fully implement safety measures introduced for federal tertiary hospitals. These measures include stronger hospital security, violence-prevention teams, better incident reporting and closer coordination with law enforcement. Health workers who began an industrial action after the incident were also urged to return to work to limit disruption to patients needing care.
