Kogi Abductee Says Kidnappers Beat Him Over ₦500,000 Ransom Offer
Victor Anyichie, one of 16 people rescued after an abduction in Kogi State, says kidnappers severely beat him when he told them his family could raise only ₦500,000. The victims were reportedly seized after gunmen attacked commuters on roads in Ofu Local Government Area. Anyichie said the gang demanded ransoms ranging from ₦2 million for children to as much as ₦100 million for some adults. He said the abductors used a red Toyota Yaris to block their bus, then opened fire and forced the passengers into captivity. The victims were later rescued during a joint operation involving the military, police and local vigilantes.
