Ogogo Remembered: The Lifelong Bonds He Built in Yoruba Cinema

The late Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, built more than a four-decade career in Yoruba theatre and film. He also formed friendships that endured through generations of performers. Yinka Quadri recalled meeting Ogogo in 1984 and described him as a brother, confidant and companion. Alongside Dele Odule, they became a defining circle within the Odunfa Caucus, sharing decades of work, camaraderie and occasional disagreements. Ogogo also worked with veterans including Jide Kosoko, Saidi Balogun and Sola Sobowale, while inspiring younger actors such as Femi Adebayo. His legacy lives not only in his films, but in the relationships and Yoruba storytelling tradition he helped shape.
