Makinde Says He Declined Tinubu’s Request to Claim Adelabu’s Ministerial Nomination
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde says President Bola Tinubu asked him to publicly take ownership of Adebayo Adelabu’s ministerial appointment after the President declined Makinde’s preferred nominee, Bimbo Adekanmbi. Speaking during a media chat in Ibadan, Makinde said he had recommended Adekanmbi for a budget and economic planning role because of his experience in the administration of former Governor Abiola Ajimobi. He said Tinubu later chose Adelabu, who contested against Makinde in the 2019 Oyo governorship election. Makinde said he acknowledged Adelabu’s qualifications but refused to present the appointment as his own recommendation. He maintained that the nomination should be recognised as the President’s decision, adding that other governors had reportedly faced similar situations.
