Onitsha South INEC Staff Accused of Demanding N2,000 for PVC Collection
Authorities at the INEC office in Onitsha South LGA, Anambra State face allegations of extorting N2,000 from applicants before releasing Permanent Voter Cards. A resident shared video evidence of the demand. He said an official named Mrs Otito asked for payment and became hostile when an applicant reminded her that PVCs are free and tried to record the incident. The confrontation reportedly turned violent when Mrs Otito allegedly assaulted those present and even bit a young woman attempting to calm the situation. INEC has repeatedly stated that all voter registration services, including PVC collection, are free. It urges citizens to report any form of extortion by its staff or ad hoc workers.
