Anambra Native Doctor Eke Hit Jailed for Six Years Over Unlawful Wealth Claims
An Anambra State High Court in Awka has sentenced traditional practitioner Ekene Igboekweze, known as Eke Hit, to six years in prison. Justice Jude Obiorah convicted him on two of three counts linked to claims of supernatural wealth creation and practices the state alleged could aid criminal activity. The court imposed six years on each count, to run concurrently. A proposed fine of ₦20 million on each count was waived after pleas by his relatives. Eke Hit was arrested in February 2025 during Anambra State’s crackdown on native doctors accused of promoting ritual practices, criminality and fraudulent wealth claims. Two other defendants arrested in the same crackdown, Akwa Okuko Tiwara Aki and Onyeze Jesus, had earlier been convicted in separate proceedings.
