Oyo Court Freezes Sale of Late Governor Alao-Akala’s Estate Pending Suit
An Oyo State High Court in Ibadan has barred Kemi Alao-Akala from selling or disposing of properties owned by her late husband, former governor Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala. The injunction will remain until a substantive suit by his first daughter, Oluwatoyin Alao Aderinto, is resolved. The claimant alleges that some assets were sold without her consent and that further transactions or joint ventures were being arranged. Relying on orders under the High Court Civil Procedure Rules, the court granted an interlocutory injunction and directed an accelerated hearing to safeguard her rights. Executors and administrators named in the case, including Kemi Alao-Akala and Olamide Alabi, are restrained from any sale, disposal, or joint venture agreements involving the disputed properties. A separate application for DNA testing of the siblings is scheduled for ruling in April 2026. The dispute has drawn attention due to the late Alao-Akala’s tenure as Oyo State governor from 2007 to 2011 and his lasting influence in the region.
