Nigerian-American Engineer Demonstrates HaloBraid Device That Speeds Up Hair Braiding
Nigerian-American biomechanical engineer Yinka Ogunbiyi has demonstrated HaloBraid, an automated device designed to help professional stylists braid hair up to five times faster. The stylist still controls the hairstyle. They section and prepare the hair, begin the braid by hand, then feed it into the device for repetitive weaving. The stylist finishes and seals the ends. Ogunbiyi said the idea came from years spent in the braiding chair and from hearing stylists discuss the physical strain of long hours of work. HaloBraid has also secured $7 million in seed funding led by Seven Seven Six.
