The family of Rebecca DePaula, a 31-year-old NYPD officer and mother of three, is calling for a malpractice investigation after she died following complications from breast implant removal surgery in the Dominican Republic. Relatives said she developed a bacterial infection after the cosmetic procedure at a clinic in Santo Domingo. She died on Sunday, less than two years after joining the police force. DePaula was recognised as Officer of the Month at her Bronx precinct in March. The police union described her death as a devastating loss.
