Demand Justice: End Tiger Base Impunity in Imo State
A pattern of fear and abuse has taken hold in Imo State. Reports say the Tiger Base anti-kidnapping unit abducted two men in Umuonyehiele and opened fire on bystanders. The victims’ families have no word on their whereabouts. These actions violate the Constitution, the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, and Nigeria’s human rights obligations. Detainees are held incommunicado and forced to pay bribes under threat of violence. This is criminal extortion dressed as law enforcement. The Inspector-General of Police and the Imo State Commissioner must launch an independent inquiry. The governor must ensure these men are produced in court without delay. Impunity can only be checked through transparency, accountability, and respect for due process.
