Argentina's Leandro Paredes Handed 10-Match Ban After World Cup Final Clashes
Argentina midfielder Leandro Paredes has received a 10-match ban for his role in clashes that followed Argentina's 1-0 defeat to Spain in the 2026 World Cup final. Team-mate Nahuel Molina was banned for seven matches. FIFA also ordered Argentina to play their next two home matches at 50% stadium capacity, although one of those sanctions has been suspended. The Argentine Football Association was fined $321,000 for misconduct, discriminatory chants and gestures by supporters, and non-sporting demonstrations. Paredes was found to have grabbed Spain defender Eric Garcia by the throat, wrestled Gavi to the ground and appeared to strike Garcia. Spain's Gavi and Argentina's Thiago Almada were each given one-match bans and fined for their involvement in the confrontation.
