Jonathan Calls for Specialised Universities as Africa Misses Global Top 100
Former President Goodluck Jonathan has expressed concern that no African university is ranked among the world’s top 100 institutions. He said the gap threatens Africa’s technological progress and industrial growth. Speaking at the National Defence College in Abuja, Jonathan urged African leaders to invest more deliberately in education, human capital and specialised institutions for science, engineering, technology and information technology. He cited Singapore and India as examples of countries that used targeted investment in education to build competitive economies. Jonathan said Africa must equip young people with specialised skills and convert its natural resources into higher-value goods and services.
