FG Unveils Plan to Ensure Four-Year Degrees End in Four Years
The Federal Government says it wants students in universities, polytechnics and colleges of education to complete four-year programmes within the approved four-year period. Education Minister Tunji Alausa said new 2026 agreements with academic and non-academic unions are meant to reduce disputes that have repeatedly disrupted academic calendars and delayed students’ graduation. The government plans to expand its implementation and monitoring committee into a permanent platform covering unions across tertiary institutions. The committee will track agreements, address delays early and resolve concerns before they lead to strikes. Academic unions in polytechnics and colleges of education said implementation had begun in some areas, including payment of outstanding arrears. They urged the government to fully meet all remaining commitments.
