Army Colonel I.A. Muhammad, Soldiers Killed in Boko Haram Ambush on Monguno Convoy
Soldiers on the North-East front report that Colonel I.A. Muhammad died while leading reinforcements to a Forward Operating Base under heavy Boko Haram attack in Monguno, Borno State. Sources told SaharaReporters that insurgents detonated a remote-controlled landmine as his convoy advanced, killing him instantly along with several troops. Monguno, a strategic camp under Sector 3 of Operation Hadin Kai, came under coordinated assault on Sunday night. Insurgents targeted a smaller Forward Operating Base, prompting the senior officer to personally mobilise support. His vehicle struck the deadly IED before he could reach the embattled soldiers. This attack highlights Boko Haram’s growing use of sophisticated explosives. It follows recent assaults in Borno that claimed the lives of other high-ranking officers, including a Brigadier-General in Benisheikh and two Lieutenant Colonels earlier this month.
