Why I Believe Prayer and Fasting Cannot Fix Nigeria’s Political System
I find it difficult to understand why churches organise long prayer and fasting programmes for Nigeria’s problems. I believe the country’s political system is structured to reward people with money, influence and a willingness to break the rules. Running for major political office requires huge amounts of money. A sincere person who earns legitimately may struggle to fund a campaign, while others can rely on vote buying, bribery and intimidation to gain power. In my view, this is why people with questionable backgrounds often dominate politics. I believe prayer can help individuals change their own lives, but Nigeria also needs citizens to confront electoral corruption and demand a system that allows credible people to participate.
