APPMEN, NHRC Partner to Boost Human Rights Awareness and Responsible Media
The Association of Proprietors of Private Media Establishments of Nigeria (APPMEN) and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) have agreed to strengthen human rights advocacy and responsible media practice. The agreement followed a meeting in Abuja, where both bodies discussed using private media platforms and content creators to improve public awareness of human rights issues. They also plan to formalise the collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding. The NHRC said it needs stronger funding and legislative support to expand its work nationwide. The commission also highlighted its Human Rights Fund, Development Fund and Human Rights Emergencies Initiative, which are intended to support victims of floods, banditry and other humanitarian crises. APPMEN also invited the commission to its September 24, 2026 conference for media proprietors and content creators in Abuja.
