Iranian Blogger Reportedly Sentenced to Death Over Posts Critical of Supreme Leader

Marziyeh “Sevda” Ebrahimi Shamsabadi, a 33-year-old blogger from Bandar Abbas, has reportedly been sentenced to death by an Iranian Revolutionary Court. The charges include insulting Iran’s supreme leader, alleged propaganda against national security and cooperating with hostile foreign governments. Her lawyer was reportedly notified of the ruling on August 23. She has been held since March and was allegedly kept in solitary confinement for 20 days, while her family was not told where she was or how she was doing. Human rights groups say executions have risen sharply in Iran, particularly against people linked to recent protests. They report that hundreds of people have been executed in 2026, including protesters and women.
