South Africa Repatriates Over 6,400 Citizens From the Middle East
South Africa’s Department of International Relations and Cooperation urged citizens to evacuate the Middle East as regional airspace closures ease. Limited flights have resumed, allowing many to return home. So far, at least 150 pilgrims from Jerusalem have been repatriated on African carriers like EgyptAir. In Dubai, hundreds boarded the first Emirates flights after the UAE partially reopened its airspace. The carrier now operates three daily routes to South Africa. More than 6,400 citizens have registered on DIRCO’s Travel Smart system. Deputy Director-General Clayson Monyela has not yet commented on those still awaiting evacuation.
