Inside Ibadan Airport’s ₦41 Billion Upgrade and Its International Flight Plans
Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport in Alakia, Ibadan, is being upgraded into an international aviation hub. The project includes a runway extension, expanded airfield, international terminal, improved lighting, fuel facilities, safety infrastructure and better road access. The planned terminal is expected to handle up to one million passengers yearly. The project’s reported ₦41 billion construction cost, further terminal development and disputed claims about federal funding have also drawn attention. If completed as planned, the airport could reduce reliance on Lagos for international travel and support tourism, agriculture, real estate and business activity across Oyo State and the wider South-West.
